This week saw the ceremony for the Hyndburn Business Awards 2018. An award show that is designed to celebrate the fantastic businesses in and around Hyndburn. Businesses large and small came from all over the borough to see who would be crowned champion for 2018 across a dozen different categories.
We were privileged to have been announced as finalists for two categories at the event. The first category was for Small Business of the year, and saw us go up against two tremendous businesses in Sundown Solutions and Specialist Training and Consultancy Services. The second category was the Made In Hyndburn award, an award that showcases the best products or services the borough has to offer. This award was hotly contested with us up against My Colourful Memories, Emerson & Renwick, Future Energy Solutions NW, and The Beauty Emporium.
The evening started with a wonderful meal provided by the students of Accrington and Rossendale College. We had the pleasure of sharing a table with M3 Projects, Sweet Reminiscing, System Hygiene and My Colourful Memories. It was great to speak with a variety of businesses that all shared the same vision, to do business well in Hyndburn and help improve the local economy.
The awards got underway with Rob Carder as organiser and the Mayor of Hyndburn both giving short presentations. It was then handed over to business consultant and MC for the evening, Liz Pollard who had the task of linking all the awards together and introducing the sponsors of each award to present to the winner.
There were some fantastic finalists and some very worthy winners throughout the night. The first category for us was Small Business of the year sponsored by North Lancs Training Group. On this occasion we were not successful, losing out to Sundown Solutions who have gone from strength to strength over the last year or so. One down, one to go.
After a short break we were up on stage again as a finalist of the Made In Hyndburn. For this category we had been shortlisted as finalist for our Creative Curriculum Comic. A comic designed to improve the engagement of children with the curriculum through the means of drawings and stories illustrated and written by Marvel and DC comic artist, Tim Perkins.
The award was sponsored by Sundown Solutions, the company we had lost the first category to. After a brief explanation of why the company won, Direct-ED Printing Services was announced as the winner of the Made In Hyndburn award. We were so pleased and very honoured and couldn’t stop smiling for the rest of the night.
Following our award win, we met a lot of new companies that wanted to know more about our comic and our printing capabilities, so our evening couldn’t have gone better.
This is just the beginning of the Creative Curriculum Comics success. Watch this space as we evolve it into a national award winner and the perfect tool to engage children and close the gap.
